During the fight for Antipolo which lasted twenty days from February 21, 1945 until March 12, 1945 there were 92 Silver Stars awarded to members of the 1st Cavalry Division. An analysis of the valor and gallantry displayed by the recipients of these Silver Stars revealed:
41% were awarded to men who went to the rescue of
wounded comrades.
22% were awarded to men who remained in position
despite the ferocity of an enemy attack.
20% were awarded to men who led drives on enemy
strongholds.
17% were awarded to men who led daring combat or reconnaissance patrols into enemy territory.
In addition, nearly twenty-five percent of the Silver Stars were awarded posthumously.
