Memories of Mutz and Haynes

My name is SSG David Flores and I am in the 1-12 Scout Platoon that these two Soldiers were in. I was with them the day their vehicle was struck by an IED. That was a day I will never forget. There were two great Soldiers as well as two great men.

I knew SGT Mitchel Mutz ever since he arrived to Ft Hood, TX. I remember his laugh and most of all his was the quiet type. He wasn't much of a PT Stud but he sure as hell could drive in Iraq. He never complained about doing anything that was asked of him. He was always going home to Falls City, and I remember the last time we got back on how excited he was to get his new truck. He was always fun to be around and he will be dearly missed.

I knew SFC Schuyler Haynes for almost 5 yrs. He was always available to talk to if you need to. He was the type of person that you could confront on any problems you had and he would do whatever he could to help you. He was a friend as well as an excellent Platoon Sergeant. He had pinned me when I was promoted to SGT/E-5 and  to SSG/E-6. My wife and I will always remember having him over for dinner and having my daughter playing with him and showing him her dolls. He will dearly be missed.

Both of these Soldiers gave the ultimate sacrifice, their lives for this country. The Scout Platoon will never forget these two great Soldiers and friends. They will both be missed.
