Recon Platoon, E Company 2/12 Cavalry
The night Nancy got overrun we were out on LP & OP outside the wire about 50 to 75 yards from the bend of the river on the other end from the water point and about 50 yards from the wire. We were split up into 3 or 4 positions within 20 yards of each other when we began to see flashlights and candles going down and through the wire.
I got on the horn and tried to tell what I was seeing and what was about to happen and asked to engage the lights. The rear just couldn't believe what we were telling them. They either flew Leo in from Evans or got him on the horn to calm me down which didn't do much good all we could do was sit and watch until 2. They broke off and came our way, we took them out and then brought everyone into one position just in case they came looking for their friends.
We came in the next morning down the wire and found ammo, pistols, lights, bloody bandages, and places where they came back through with wounded and dead. Then we came on in and helped police up dead gooks and then we took care of our own two we had lost.
