Company B, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry
 1968 to 1969
Sergeant August (Pat) Wilganoski

My arrival to Bravo company was at some rubber plantation. Just looking at the soldiers that were already there, I could tell this wasn't a place I prefer, and they still kick me off chopper. But just like everyone else, I adjusted to new way of living. I believe with all my heart that I would survived NAM. Later that day, the CO came by and introduce himself. Guess he did that with all the f.n.g. You could tell he been in the bush for awhile. He got straight to idea working hard and taking care of business we could make it home alive. He was from Texas just like me and I got the feeling he didn't want to be there, but You could tell he was doing his job well and his rotation to the rear was coming in about thirty days and also you could tell he was respected by the troops.

I was put in the second platoon second squad. I really was pretty quiet and didn't talk much. After about three weeks, got to know guys in my squad, and begin fine out  that most of them where about two or three months into their's tour of duty. Like most, I walk point, later the M-60 and squad leader.

I really believe that Bravo company was a outstanding bunch of troopers. We had some of the best RTO of the whole battalion. Jim Stokley was one our RTO, need I say anything else. I knew important role these guys played.

Like some, we really got close to a few guys. Hebert Kelley was the guy I would come know best. We were as different as day and night. Him from Delaware and I from Texas. What a unlikely pair. I realize Kelley was very smart and I needed all the help I could get. We dugged a many of fox holes. We talk about home, and cuss the army. If it wasn't for Kelley, I wouldn't be writing this letter, because he save my butt a couple of times. He departed Nam in November of 69, I was happy for him, but sure did miss him, I departed December 69. Kelley stop by my home on his way to Fort Hood, when I was home on leave in Fort Worth Texas. Never did I thought it would be 34 years later we would meet. Found out he was still in Dover Delaware. Me and the Wife flew to Delaware and met him and his family and he doing really good.

In 1996 I took my wife to visit Vietnam, She says that was the greatest adventure of her life.
