I'm looking for anyone who served with my brother Forrest Paul Hicks. He was a medic with the 1st Cav from August 1967 to June 1968. He was assigned to Headquarters Company 2nd Battalion 12th Cavalry. He received the Silver Star for his actions during the mission in the Que Son Valley 7 January 1968. He is losing his battle with cancer and I expect he will not make it through the weekend. Anyway, he would never talk about his tour in Viet Nam and suddenly it is important to me to find out more.

Eddie and I entered service together 6 October 1966. We did Basic at Fort Ord California and AIT at Fort Polk Louisiana (Tiger Land). Upon Graduation we both received orders for Vietnam. He was assigned to the 1st Cav., I was assigned to a MACV Security Platoon in II Corps, Kontum Province. As good fortune would have it, we had a chance encounter a few months after being deployed. Eddie’s unit was in my area, and he and the rest of the guys were actually able to spend a couple of days with us before his unit moved on. Eddie was from Astoria, New York.
I’ve been looking for him for many years, I have much I would like to say to him, at the very least, I would dearly like to see him at least one more time. If there is any way you or any one else can help me in this regard, I would be most grateful.

I just got back from visiting The Traveling Wall. A childhood friend of mine, Thomas Loos, unfortunately is listed on the wall. I grew up with Tom, played Little League ball together. Through the internet I've found he was a Silver Star recipient. From the date and location of his death it seems he might have been involved in the Battle of Hue. He served with Company D, 2/12th Cavalry.
