12th Cavalry Regiment Association

On Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the annual luncheon meeting of the 12th Cavalry Regiment Association, Ken Howser was elected or appointed to Secretary of the Association.  Dennis Rasmussen was appointed webmaster on June 5, 2010 to replace Doug Warden, who remains Historian and now is the editor of the Crossed Sabers Newsletter.

He will also have the additional responsibility of being the 12th Cavalry columnist for the 1st Cavalry Division Association newspaper, the SABER.

Ken was drafted in 1968 and joined Company A, 2/12th Cavalry in the vicinity of LZ Grant in February 1969. He served with the 4th platoon in various mortar positions before he became the Company Commander’s RTO (his call sign was Ace High 6 India). The end of his tour was spent as the jeep driver for the Battalion S-3.

He has been a member of the 12th Cavalry Regiment Association since 1990 and has attended four 1st Cavalry Division Association reunions. In addition, he is a member of the American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

On multiple occasions in 2007, Ken has represented the Association at the funeral services of active duty 12th Cavalry Troopers.

Currently, Ken is assisting with the Archives Project to retrieve the Vietnam era Regimental records from the National Archives in Maryland.

Ken lives in Maryland and recently retired from the US Postal Service after 35 years of service. He has been married to Karen since 1973 and they have three daughters and eight grandchildren.


       Dennis Rasmussen - Webmaster

Dennis was drafted into the Army in 1966.  He served as a rifleman, assistant machine gunner, machine gunner, squad leader and platoon sergeant in Charlie Company, 1st/12th Cavalry from May, 1967 to May, 1968. He has several Bronze Stars w/ V Device and two Purple Hearts.

He re-enlisted in the Army and served another tour with the 1st Cavalry Division in H Company, 75th Rangers and Echo Company, 1/12th Cavalry.  He was also a drill instructor and was a member of the NCO Academy cadre.  He served our country in the Army for over 11 years.

Dennis was the Information Technology Director of a community college in North Carolina for over twenty years and retired in 2010.  He is a volunteer driver for the local chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.

He has been married to his wife Susan for over 20 years and they have a son attending college.  They live in North Carolina.
